There are 950 asylum seekers in Stoke and an additional 200 who are without any support. These men and women are not allowed to work, claim benefit and they are not deported because their country is deemed unsafe.

Every December ASHA collects food for destitute asylum seekers and to support individuals whose income is £35.39 a week for food, toiletries, clothing and travel.

Most wanted items are:

  • Basmati rice,
  • Sunflower cooking oil,
  • Long life milk, Sugar,
  • Tinned tomatoes & tuna,
  • Pasta,
  • Cereals,
  • S/R & maize flour,
  • Couscous,


  • Chick peas,
  • Biscuits,
  • Jam,
  • Honey,
  • Coffee,
  • Pepper & Salt,
  • Vegetarian soup.

You may donate online at or by Standing Order or Cheque. If you wish to Gift Aid your donation, please add your address and the following statement on the back of your cheque ‘I am a registered UK tax payer and I wish to Gift Aid my donation.’

No packet soup or tinned meat, thank you.

ASHA collects good quality CLOTHING and SHOES and OLD COTHING which is sold and the proceeds used to the buy food in short supply.
